Description:

This provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy course gives participants the skills and knowledge required to provide advanced resuscitation in an emergency situation. Participants will learn how to utilise specialised first aid equipment; stabilise a casualty where medical aid has been delayed; maintain life in an unconscious casualty with the use of oxygen equipment; and operate a defibrillator unit in order to maintain life in an adult casualty in cardiac arrest.

  • Anatomy and physiology
  • Oxygen therapy and resuscitation
  • Oropharyngeal airway
  • Bag valve mask (BVM)
  • Maintenance of resuscitation equipment

Participants will also complete the HLTAID011 Provide First Aid unit, which is a pre-requisite for the HLTAID015 unit. Provide First Aid gives you the basic skills and knowledge to assist in any emergency situation until further help arrives. You will be trained by qualified trainers and partake in practical training to learn what to do indifferent emergencies.

Pre-requisites: 

Participants must have basic computer skills and access to a reliable computer with internet and email access. As an assessment requirement of the HLTAID011 unit, participants must be able to perform at least 2 minutes (5 cycles) of CPR on an adult resuscitation manikin that is placed on the floor. 

Licence & Regulatory Requirements: 

It is recommended by the Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) that HLTAID009 Provide cardiopulmonary resuscitation and HLTAID015 Provide advanced resuscitation and oxygen therapy is completed every 12 months to remain current with the ARC guidelines, and every 3 years for HLTAID011 Provide First Aid.

Duration

Pre-course work:

Online/self-paced training (approximately 6-9 hours depending on the individual student and their personal circumstances and other commitments). This online training involves reading interactive modules and then using the knowledge learnt to complete exams. Online training must be completed prior to the face-to-face training.

Face-to-face work:

4.5 hours face-to-face (approximately) your trainer will deliver practical training.
