Course Overview

• Year-long pre-professional program

• Three days per week (Mon-Wed, 9:30am - 4:30pm)

We provide outstanding, personalised actor training to transform you and your instrument, which we define as your voice, body, imagination and intellect. Actors who have trained with our tutors have gone on to successfully audition for three year courses at NIDA, WAAPA, VCA and Federation University. Students graduate with a well rounded technique in acting for stage and screen, with insider industry knowledge.

 

The tutors:

Led by NIDA directing graduate and Head of Course Briony Dunn, our team of expert tutors include Actors Studio life member Bronwen Coleman, QUT graduate Claire Pearson, and VCA graduate and vocal technique tutor Jason Marrow. Masterclass guests will include producer Sue Maslin (The Dressmaker), casting director Jane Norris (Mullinars) and filmmaker Robert Connolly (Paper Planes).

 

Applicants:

As our program is particularly demanding successful applicants will exhibit a zest for learning, a level head, and a committed work ethic. Students can expect up to 12 hours of homework each week. Our team of professional tutors and practitioners will support and nurture you throughout the rigours of your training.

 

Our full time program includes:

• Shakespeare monologue unit

• Dialect work (General American)

• Stanislavski text study

• Laban Movement Analysis

• Screentest, audition techniques

• Casting director workshops & industry guests

• Industry showcase, showreel & graduate production

• An opportunity to attend a 2-week workshop at the Stella Adler Studio, Los Angeles

• An opportunity to win a 1-year Stella Adler scholarship, offered to a participant of the LA workshop

Entry requirements:

  • All applicants must successfully audition.
  • Students must be 18yrs of age by course commencement date. In a rare instance students showing exceptional ability may be offered a place prior to 18yrs of age.
  • Students must be proficient in spoken and written English to keep up with the demands of the course.
  • Interstate applicants not auditioning in Melbourne will receive further details for their video audition once their application form has been received.

Application process:

  • Application is by audition and interview.
  • Applicants will be asked to prepare two monologues of their choice to perform for the audition panel. The first monologue should be modern (from a published play) and the second from Shakespeare.
  • To apply download, save and fill in the 'register to audition' application form. Once the form and non-refundable $40 processing fee have been submitted, you will receive an audition pack in your inbox. This pack contains the information required for your audition including time, date, location, monologue suggestions and tips to assist in the process of auditioning for drama schools such as ours.
