Course Summary

Are you passionate about helping people with their horses?

The Horse Handling Instructor course will give you a professional qualification to teach people about horse handling and safety.

This full course qualification includes those who are new to horses and to complement your existing skills so you can teach Equine Facilitated Learning and other unmounted activities with horses.

What Units of Competency are Included?

In your Horse Handling Instructor course (Statement of Attainment from AHC32816 Certificate III in Rural Operations), the following units of competency are included:

  • ACMEQU214 Prepare to work safely around horses
  • SISOEQU001 Handle horses
  • SISOEQU010 Identify hazards, assess and control safety risks for horse handling and riding activities
  • SISOEQU007 Instruct horse handling skills

The following are recommended only and not mandatory to complete this qualification.

Your recommended co-requisites can be completed either prior to commencing your course or prior to commencing the coaching component of your course.

They are;

a) St John's First Aid (or equivalent) which should be completed by an external provider.

(This is a recommended co-requisite only which would be delivered by an external provider at a cost to the student. It is not required for those teaching in a commercial environment where there is always a First Aider available who holds this unit or equivalent qualifications.)

b) Australian Sports Commission Online Community Coaching course.

How Long Will My Course Take?

If you already have extensive previous experience, this course should be completed in a very short period of time. It is not Centrelink-approved, and for experienced professionals, the theory could be completed in a couple of weeks.

Otherwise, it could take up to three months, with 50 hours of practical teaching experience to be gained during that time.

Sometimes life gets in the way and you may not complete this course as quickly as you think so we will keep your student portal open to give you access to your course for up to one year. If you need longer then please let us know.
